I watched Luka Magnotta’s “kill” video. I add quotations because, suspiciously, there is no footage of the actual killing. I say ‘suspiciously’ because he is reported to have written: Once you kill, and taste blood, it’s impossible to stop. (The Sun) He doesn’t seem too interested in the killing. If one is recording his deeds as an addicted killer, why would he leave out the killing? Why would he not set up the camera to record his delight in the bloody affair of hacking at his victim’s throat? The article, calling Magnotta a “cannibal killer”, also reports that the “film shows the victim being stabbed in a frenzy with an ICE-PICK, before being dismembered, sexually abused and his flesh EATEN with a knife and fork.” Hogwash. Having watched the video myself, it is quite obvious that:1) Though it begins with the victim alive, tied on the bed, there is a cut scene and he is already completely dead (throat severed) before Magnotta begins playing with his body. This is shown to the camera after he finishes with the ice pick.2) He is not at all in a frenzy. Everything in the entire video is childishly explorative, deliberate and without passion. It is quite obviously Magnotta’s first opportunity to play with a dead body. He does anything that he thinks of, with no true desire involved. There is nothing that he specifically wanted the body for (except getting attention).3) I do believe ‘sexually abused’ would be better termed ‘defiled’, since the man is no longer alive.4) His flesh was not eaten with a knife and fork. Magnotta takes a knife and fork to the man’s ass (in a pathetically inept manner, I might add) and, when he finally succeeds in obtaining a chunk of fat, he goes off screen with it and shortly returns with his pet (possibly a puppy, it is hard to tell because of the video quality). He lets it nibble at the stump of the right leg.This brings me to my most blog-relevant point. It was a large piece of ass-fat. I mean…really. If the dude succeeded in eating that without gagging, I’d be very surprised. I would be similarly surprised if he even tried. It has been noted in many articles that the man got his start by posting videos on the internet such videos as Christmas Python (in which a python consumes a kitten). The man obviously enjoys the attention he gets from feeding his pets. I am 99.999999999% certain he was merely cutting off a piece to feed another pet, not so that he himself could eat it.Having explained all of that, I can now state that I do not believe that Luka Magnotta (born Eric Clinton Kirk Newman) is a cannibal. I also do not believe he is a necrophiliac, or a serial killer proper (in the sense that he is not killing because he has an urge to kill, or to obtain his desire for dead flesh etc., but merely seeking attention). If this 29 year old Canadian has any more “fun” before he’s captured, it’ll be to garner more publicity. He has apparently said that he “would do anything to be famous,” after all. And he has been trying a long time. However, the media is certainly giving him what he wants now, but he’s done a better job of giving them what they want. In summary, the man suspected of recently mailing a foot to the Conservatives, a hand to the Liberals - actions which had such potential - stuffing a torso in a suitcase to rot, appears to be nothing but an attention whore. I am disappoint >:[But I do enjoy his soundtrack choices (one redeeming factor) and am still interested to see where the other four pieces were sent…UPDATE: He was caught in Berlin…at an internet cafe…reading stories about himself.
